The Forbidden Couch

Something happened the other day that made me laugh and also realize just how sly these little dogs can be! We have been trying to teach Dixie (1 year PWC) that she is not allowed on our new furniture in the family room. She is really resisting this rule and she gets on the furniture every time we turn our backs. She knows that she is not allowed, however, she tests us every chance she gets. Anyway, on Wednesday I was sick in bed with strep throat and she was out in the den. I hadn't heard her for awhile and assumed she was sleeping innocently on the floor. My husband drove into the driveway which is always a signal for her to bark her head off to let me know he's home. (She does this everytime he comes home without fail.) Well, as he drove into the driveway I noticed that amazingly...Dixie was silent. He came in the door and she did not run to greet him with her normal kisses and great enthusiasm. We both looked into the family room and there she was sitting on the "forbidden" couch with wide eyes. She knew that if she caused any attention to herself she would be forced to give up her coveted position on the couch. She makes me laugh!
